Classes and Workshops

EAC believes that one learns by doing. We are an "arts incubator" for actors, writers, directors, musicians, filmmmakers. The classes and workshops we host are designed or chosen to give each participant a taste of what it means to be a professional and take responsibility for one's art. They are meant to inspire both the amateur and veteran. Above all they are offered to the community so that we can continue to support the evolution of telling one's story.  It is through this self-expression that we, as a society, can continue to grow and evolve.

What makes you unique??

We will begin with Meisner's famous improvisation work:
-Repetition Exercise, Activities, Knock on the Door, Preparation

During the last month each student will be assigned a scene to incorporate into the previous work.

Sandy believed that all good acting comes from your gut and there was no room for your brain. The brain made things overly complicated. He wanted to get back to acting that was simple and authentically rooted in "The Reality of Doing." Actors learn to take the attention off themselves and put it on their partners' real behavior, allowing it to affect them and cause a truthful reaction. Students then apply this strong beginning in their ability to "live truthfully" to scene work.

Lori will guide you through a step-by-step procedure of self-investigation that Sanford Meisner developed through his work with The Group Theatre and The Neighborhood Playhouse in NYC. We will be working from the most authentic you that we can uncover. We will get back to acting that is rooted in the "Reality of Doing", actively listening and living fully. We will examine the many layers of defense mechanisms and everyday behaviors that society has dressed us with as a means of survival. Each student will begin to discard these societal misconceptions and emerge with an instrument that is grounded in true instincts.

Lori asks that you come to this class with an open heart, an open mind and the courage to be challenged.

"No art form worth doing promises ease. If you risk being an artist you risk taking your talent seriously." -Sanford Meisner

The Meisner Technique Based Scene Study

Cost: $550 Total ($275 per month)

Once a week for 8 weeks -

Start: Saturday May 1st End: Saturday June 19thth

OR Start: Sunday May 2nd End: Sunday June 20th

This is a Meisner based Scene Study class meaning just that. Meisner will be the basis for our work but we will be incorporating different techniques learned through years of study with Larry Moss and Ivana Chubbuck as well as Sanford Meisner in order to build a scene. The purpose is to be exposed to different rehearsal techniques that will help ignite your creativity.  It will challenge your work ethic by introducing you to new exercises or by allowing you to revisit things you may have forgotten.

Repetition
Participants will learn the basic language of the Meisner Technique which is rooted in repetition. The exercise is designed to get you out of your head and behaving from your “gut” instincts instead of learned behaviors. If you repeat what you hear there is no need to use the brain. It’s acting without thought, censoring or social appropriateness.

Activities
We will add a physical activity that is difficult, meaningful and urgent. This helps take the focus off of you and on to something that requires all your concentration. It allows you to respond freely to your partner.

Emotional Preparation/Relationships/Memorization/Analysis
Be a better “detective.
Be present in every moment.
Have an opinion.
Find your instinct.
Act from your most authentic self.
